The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has expressed uncertainty regarding the payment of the ₦77,000 monthly allowance for corps members.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Despite the Federal Government’s approval to increase the allowance from ₦33,000 to ₦77,000 in July 2024 and the assurance that payments would begin in February 2025, corps members are still receiving the old stipend.

In an interview with Vanguard in Abuja on Wednesday, Carol Embu, the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations at the NYSC, attributed the delay to funding challenges. She stated that the scheme is actively seeking the necessary financial backing for the allowance increase, but the process requires time and careful attention.

Embu further explained that the new NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, who recently assumed office, is still getting up to speed on the situation.

She mentioned that the Minister overseeing the NYSC had addressed the issue and assured the public that updates would be shared once more information is available.

While acknowledging the financial struggles of corps members due to the insufficient old stipend, Embu could not provide a specific timeline for when the ₦77,000 payments would begin.

“We are currently pursuing the cash backing, and that’s where we are. We have a new Director-General who is still familiarizing himself with the matter. Please give us a little more time. This process requires due diligence and time,” she explained.

“I cannot give an exact date for when the payments will begin, but rest assured that the NYSC is actively addressing this. The minister has also spoken on the matter, and while we may not have all the details, we will share updates as soon as we have clarity,” she concluded.
