In a video released by the State House on August 7, 2024, Tinubu recognized the difficulties Nigerians are facing due to the subsidy removal and admitted that a delay in implementing his plans exacerbated the situation.

“Fellow Nigerians, this period may be challenging, and it is undoubtedly tough. However, I urge you to look past these temporary pains and focus on the broader vision. Our beneficial plans are in progress, and I am confident they will succeed. Unfortunately, there was an avoidable gap between the subsidy removal and the full implementation of these plans,” Tinubu stated.

He assured citizens that the steps his government has taken will help the country overcome its current economic difficulties and encouraged them to trust in his administration’s ability to bring about positive change.

Tinubu emphasized, “Please have faith in our capability and commitment to your well-being. We will navigate through this turbulence, and thanks to the measures we’ve enacted, Nigeria will be better prepared to seize future opportunities. For instance, we will fulfill our promise to make education more affordable and provide financial support to higher education students. No student should have to abandon their studies due to financial constraints.”

The President concluded, “Our goal is to achieve the greatest good for the largest number of people. We are steadfast in our principles and committed to transitioning from this dark period to a new and promising dawn. I now need to return to work to make this vision a reality.
