The governors arrived at the State House around 4:00 pm (local time) for a meeting that lasted less than an hour. No public briefing was given by any of the six state executives following the session.
Attendees included Jigawa Governor Umar Namadi, Edo Governor Monday Okpebholo, Ekiti Governor Biodun Oyebanji, Kogi Governor Usman Ododo, Sokoto Governor Aliyu Sokoto, and Kebbi Governor Nasir Idris.
Onanuga tweeted: “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu received in audience Governor of Sokoto Ahmad Aliyu, Governor of Ondo Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Governor of Jigawa Umar Namadi, Governor of Kebbi Dr Nasir Idris, Governor of Kogi Ahmed Usman Ododo and Governor of Edo Monday Okpebholo at the State House.”
The meeting comes amid ongoing security challenges in the North-West and North-Central regions, including the recent abductions and subsequent release of school children and worshipers.
Meanwhile, the National Secretary of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), Peter Ameh, has alleged that the Tinubu administration is increasingly concerned about Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ameh made the claim during an interview with Seun Okinbaloye on The Micon Podcast, asserting that the federal government is taking steps to prevent Obi from appearing on the ballot. According to Ameh, these actions are informed by “data collection and behind-the-scenes engagements” indicating that Obi is the administration’s most formidable opponent.
He further accused presidential aide Bayo Onanuga of repeatedly targeting Obi in his social media posts as part of a broader strategy to undermine the former Anambra governor’s influence.
Ameh said: “We are not just speculating; we collect data and engage behind closed doors. From what we know, the only person this government does not want on the ballot is Peter Obi. They are doing everything possible. Count how many times Bayo Onanuga has posted about Peter Obi on Twitter—he’s clearly worried. Tinubu is not afraid of Atiku or Rotimi Amaechi. This is well-known; there is a high level of fear.”
