The students regained their freedom 17 days after the kidnapping and were personally received by Niger State Governor, Umar Bago, on Monday.
According to earlier reports by Naija News, the federal government facilitated the release of the 100 schoolchildren who were taken by bandits on November 21, 2025.
The attackers had stormed the remote Papiri community at around 2:00 a.m., arriving on motorcycles and targeting the school dormitories for more than three hours. In the aftermath, 315 individuals—303 students and 12 teachers—were abducted.
Within the first 24 hours following the raid, 50 pupils managed to escape and reunite with their families, leaving 265 people—253 children and all 12 teachers—still in captivity.
Security operatives, supported by local hunters, were immediately deployed to scour nearby forests in search of the remaining victims.
While the release has brought immense relief to the families of the freed pupils, parents of those still held hostage continue to face anxiety and uncertainty.
