The disclosure was made by NAPTIP’s Director of Legal and Prosecution, Mrs. Ijeoma Amugo, during a press briefing in Abuja to flag off the 2025 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.
According to the agency, Speed Darlington — also known as Akpi — was added to the watchlist after repeatedly failing to honour invitations to appear before investigators in Abuja.
NAPTIP said the case stems from an Instagram Live session in which the rapper allegedly claimed he had sexual relations with a 15-year-old girl. Instead of cooperating with investigators, he reportedly went online to criticise and attack the agency.
Amugo said, “He attempted to intimidate us by going on social media to declare that he would not honour our invitation, alleging that his human rights were being violated. We made every effort to locate him physically because a suspect must first be found before justice can proceed.”
She explained that investigators visited all his known addresses but were unable to find him, later receiving intelligence suggesting he had left the country.
“Our latest information indicates that he is currently outside Nigeria. As a result, we have placed him on a watchlist. The moment he returns to the country, we will resume the investigation,” she added.
“As of now, we have not heard from him. Once he enters Nigeria, NAPTIP will continue the case from where it was suspended. That is the current status of the investigation.”
