President Tinubu, after attending a book launch on his predecessor Muhammadu Buhari, convened a meeting with top military officials, including General Christopher Musa, Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogala, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, and Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun. The agenda of the meeting was not disclosed, but it is believed to be related to the President’s concerns about the rising incidents of criminal activities.
In response to the security situation, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, met with tactical squad and task force commanders to coordinate intensified operations against criminal elements. Additionally, the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Mr. Nyesom Wike, held an emergency security council meeting, warning area council chairmen and assuring Abuja residents that the government is taking action.
Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, expressed concern over renewed attacks on the Abuja-Kaduna highway. The Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, called on the federal government to establish state police, criticizing the failure to use BVN and NIN for tracking terrorists and kidnappers. Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore announced plans to launch vigilance groups to enhance the fight against insecurity in Nasarawa State.
President Tinubu, speaking at a book launch, acknowledged inheriting both assets and liabilities from his predecessor. He characterized the event as a reunion with former President Muhammadu Buhari, emphasizing the challenges and tasks left for continuity after Buhari’s departure from office on May 29, 2023.
