Breaking: Tinubu Names New Chairman To Lead NAHCON

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf as the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).

The announcement was made on Wednesday in a statement issued by the President’s spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the statement, the appointment is subject to confirmation by the Senate, in line with Section 3(2) of the NAHCON Act, 2026.

Ambassador Yusuf is set to replace Professor Abdullahi Usman, who resigned earlier this week after serving for about 14 months.

“President Tinubu has written to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, requesting the prompt confirmation of Ambassador Yusuf to replace Professor Abdullahi Usman, who resigned this week,” the presidency stated.

The statement further described Ambassador Yusuf as a seasoned career diplomat who served as Nigeria’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Türkiye from 2021 to 2024.

Professor Usman announced his resignation in a personally signed statement issued in Abuja, stating that his decision took effect on Monday, February 9, 2026, and was based on personal reasons.

He confirmed that his resignation was formally communicated to President Tinubu in accordance with Section 3(6) of the NAHCON Establishment Act, 2006.

In his statement, Usman expressed gratitude to the President for the opportunity to lead the commission. He also thanked Vice President Kashim Shettima for his “unwavering guidance, encouragement, and support” throughout his tenure.
