Makinde Eyeing Atiku’s Ticket? Fayose Spills Details Of Meeting with IBB

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has accused Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde of maneuvering to become the running mate of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Fayose made the claims following a meeting on Tuesday in Minna, Niger State, attended by Atiku, Makinde, and former Head of State Ibrahim Babangida.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Fayose alleged that Makinde promised to split President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Southwest votes and deliver support from Rivers State to Atiku.

According to Fayose, Makinde also pledged ₦10 billion to the opposition party, with additional funds to be provided once the campaign officially begins.

Fayose said:
“Here’s the untold story of what happened in Minna yesterday. It is no longer news that Governor Seyi Makinde met with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in Minna, Niger State. What happened behind the scenes is what matters.”

He added that the meeting’s venue and attendees were carefully selected to ensure trust and confidentiality.

Fayose further claimed:

• Consideration was given to the fact that Peter Obi would neither accept nor be acceptable as Atiku’s running mate.

• Atiku is reportedly 70% certain of securing the ADC presidential ticket, following a decision not to zone the party’s ticket.

• Makinde allegedly agreed to join the ADC on the condition that he would be named Atiku’s vice-presidential candidate, pending further approval by Atiku’s inner circle.

• Makinde reportedly committed ₦10 billion, to be released in two tranches, as initial support for the ADC, with additional funds promised for the campaign.

• For the ADC primary, he is said to have pledged to deliver Southwest delegates and use the influence of his wife, who hails from Rivers State, to secure South-South delegate votes.

• Makinde also suggested that dividing Southwest votes during the general election would give the ADC a strategic advantage.
