He is also expected to deliver a nationwide broadcast in commemoration of the event.
The announcement was made on Tuesday in Abuja by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume.
The statement, issued by the SGF’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yomi Odunuga, said Akume disclosed this while inaugurating an inter-ministerial committee tasked with coordinating activities for the celebration at the Shehu Shagari Complex in Abuja.
Akume urged members of the committee to commence work immediately, noting that only 10 days remained before the anniversary.
According to him, activities marking the Democracy Day celebration will begin on June 4 with a World Press Conference.
This will be followed by special Juma’at prayers on June 5, and a special inter-denominational church service on June 7.
A Democracy Day public lecture is scheduled for June 9, while youth and women-focused programmes will hold on June 10.
The celebration will culminate on June 12 with President Tinubu’s address to the National Assembly, a nationwide broadcast, and a Democracy Day gala night.
Akume said the government was mindful of the prevailing national mood and remained committed to fiscal discipline, adding that this year’s celebration would be modest.
He also paid tribute to the heroes of the June 12, 1993 democratic struggle, particularly the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, noting that his sacrifice laid the foundation for Nigeria’s present democratic system.
The SGF said the annual commemoration serves both as a tribute to democracy advocates and as an opportunity to reflect on Nigeria’s democratic progress.
He added that the event would allow the Tinubu administration to showcase achievements in strengthening institutions, consolidating democracy, and driving national reforms.
The inter-ministerial committee, chaired by Akume, includes ministers from key sectors such as information, interior, FCT, health, foreign affairs, finance, defence, and budget and economic planning, alongside the National Security Adviser, Inspector-General of Police, DSS Director-General, presidential aides, and permanent secretaries.
The committee is mandated to plan and execute all approved activities, document the events for record purposes, and engage relevant stakeholders where necessary.
Akume also directed all subcommittee heads to submit their budgets promptly to ensure smooth implementation of the programme.
