According to sources cited by Sahara Reporters, discussions within the presidency suggest growing dissatisfaction with the current leadership in Lagos, prompting what has been described as a possible transition arrangement. Under the reported plan, Hamzat would complete the current term and could also be positioned as a strong contender for a full four-year mandate in the 2027 elections.

Although no official confirmation has been issued, the report points to heightened political maneuvering in Lagos, widely seen as a key power base for Tinubu.

Sources also claim tensions have risen in recent weeks, with Sanwo-Olu reportedly facing accusations within party circles of acting independently in ways perceived as challenging Tinubu’s influence in the state. These allegations include claims tied to political structures in Lagos, disputes over strategic land assets, and controversy surrounding attempts to remove Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.

Insiders further alleged that Tinubu’s intervention followed concerns over the perceived role of the Lagos executive in the circumstances surrounding Obasa’s removal. During a reported meeting with state lawmakers convened to address the Assembly leadership crisis, the President was said to have questioned why the state executive would be involved in deciding the Speaker’s fate.

According to sources familiar with the meeting, Tinubu viewed the governor’s alleged influence in the matter as troubling, reinforcing speculation about a broader political recalibration within Lagos.
