People are entitled to their opinions,” Shehu said. “But officially, there’s been no indication of mistrust or discord between Buhari and Tinubu. For Buhari, his identity is deeply rooted in the APC. He has always acknowledged that he failed in his first three attempts to win the presidency until the formation of the APC, which brought him success.”
According to Shehu, Buhari has consistently expressed gratitude to the APC for giving him the platform to serve two terms as president, vowing never to betray the party.
“He has said it repeatedly: ‘I will never be ungrateful or turn my back on the party that gave me that opportunity,’” Shehu noted.
Shehu also downplayed public speculations about internal tensions within the APC, stressing that those who were part of the coalition’s formation in 2014 understand the sacrifices made and are unlikely to jeopardize its unity now.
“We hear the talk, we read the headlines. But are we disturbed? Not really,” he added. “It took immense effort and sacrifice to unite various opposition groups into the APC. Anyone who experienced that process firsthand is not likely to be the one trying to tear it apart.”
