In a statement issued on Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC accused the Tinubu-led administration of deliberately going after its northern leaders in an effort to destabilize the opposition coalition forming to challenge the APC in the next general election.

Reacting to the claims in an interview with The Punch, APC’s Director of Publicity, Bala Ibrahim, urged Nigerians to ignore any statements coming from the ADC spokesperson, describing Abdullahi as someone with a history of dishonesty.

Ibrahim recalled that Abdullahi once openly admitted that serving as the APC spokesperson was difficult because the role allegedly required lying.

“This is the same Bolaji Abdullahi who said the toughest job he ever had was being the APC’s spokesperson because, in his words, the job couldn’t be done without lying,” Ibrahim said. “So Nigerians must now ask: is he speaking as a reformed liar, or is he still spreading falsehoods?”

He added that Abdullahi’s tendency to lie was personal and not a directive of the APC. “We took over the party’s publicity after he left, and there has never been any instruction or party principle encouraging lies. If he lied during his time, it was a product of his own character, not party ideology.”

Ibrahim further dismissed the ADC as an unserious party that poses no real challenge to the APC.

“From the very beginning, the ADC has been disorganized,” he said. “Their coalition is already falling apart. Some individuals who showed up at their meeting said they were misled—some believed it was a PDP caucus, others were invited under false pretenses. Many were shocked to see their pictures being circulated as coalition members.”

Concluding his remarks, Ibrahim stated, “The ADC and its leaders are not a threat to the APC. They lack the capacity, unity, and credibility to challenge us.”
