Buhari’s Ex-Aide Reveals Why Davido May Be Barred From Entering Osun
Former Special Assistant on Digital Communications to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, has criticised Nigerian singer Davido after the musician claimed that soldiers were planning to prevent him from entering Osun State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
Davido had raised the allegation in a post on his official X account early Saturday, saying he had been reliably informed that soldiers were planning to stop him from entering the state.
The singer, however, insisted that such a move would not succeed, stressing that every Nigerian has the constitutional right to freedom of movement.
Davido wrote that he had received information that soldiers were attempting to prevent him from entering Osun and maintained that every citizen had the right to move freely within the country.
Reacting to the claim, Ahmad described Davido’s statement as “dramatic”, arguing that security agencies had already announced restrictions on movement across Osun State as part of measures to maintain peace and security during the election.
According to the former presidential aide, the restriction was scheduled to take effect from midnight until 6 p.m. on Saturday.
Ahmad explained that the movement restriction was a standard security measure commonly implemented during elections and was not specifically targeted at Davido or peculiar to Osun State.
He further argued that the constitutional right to freedom of movement does not exempt individuals from complying with lawful security measures introduced to ensure a peaceful and credible election.
The exchange comes amid heightened security arrangements across Osun State as voters head to the polls to elect the next governor.
