According to statements made by Shehu’s lawyer, M.I. Abubakar, it is purported that the Nigeria Police detained the controversial activist following his vocal demands for legal action against Malami and other key figures from the previous administration. Shehu’s detention, orchestrated by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Monitoring Unit, allegedly stems from a complaint lodged by the former minister.
Contrary to Shehu’s claims, an official statement from Malami’s legal representative, A.A. Sheriff, paints a starkly different picture. The statement asserts that Shehu was apprehended at a hotel while in the midst of an extortion attempt, seeking to unlawfully acquire the sum of $500,000.
While vehemently refuting the accusations leveled against Malami, Sheriff contends that Shehu’s arrest was prompted by charges related to extortion, criminal intimidation, and attempted fraud through the use of electronic communication. The statement goes on to elucidate the intricate web of deceit allegedly orchestrated by Shehu, involving the unauthorized extraction of sensitive information from Aisha Abubakar Malami’s email account, resulting in a financial loss exceeding N19 million.
In light of these startling revelations, the public is left grappling with the complexities of this unfolding narrative, underscoring the critical need for transparency and due process in the pursuit of justice. As investigations into this intricate web of allegations continue, Nigerians await further developments with bated breath, hoping for clarity and resolution in this high-profile case.
