Two businessmen have been nabbed by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for attempting to smuggle hard drugs via the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. One of the men, during his interrogation, identified himself as a trader from the Alaba International Market in Lagos state. He was about to embark on a flight to Hong Kong with 49 ingested pellets of illicit drugs when officers apprehended him on October 21. The man revealed he had been promised N3.5 million in exchange for trafficking the drugs. He intended to use the money to buy fairly used televisions, printers, and other goods for resale in Nigeria.

In a subsequent video, another man is seen undergoing multiple rounds of excretion to eject the ingested drugs. Such instances of drug smuggling, where individuals swallow drug-filled pellets, pose significant health risks to the carriers, with cases of internal ruptures and subsequent fatalities not uncommon.
