The individuals in question are 20-year-old Yakubu Ya’u from Kaduna State and 25-year-old Musa Yakubu from Kogi State.
According to SP Bright Edafe, the Public Relations Officer for the Delta State Police Command, the arrests were made following diligent investigations. Ya’u, despite his Kaduna residency, was allegedly making frequent trips to Oha and Ughwagba communities in Delta’s Okpe area to carry out kidnappings for ransom.
Acting on intelligence, a collaborative effort between the Delta State Command and the Force Intelligence Unit, Abuja, led to the apprehension of Ya’u after an extensive search.
Subsequent inquiries resulted in the detention of Musa and Mohammed, who are accused of involvement in multiple kidnapping incidents across Orerokpe, Sapele, Warri, and surrounding vicinities. The victims have reportedly recognized the suspects.
During the investigation process, the alleged kidnappers guided detectives to Ughwagba Community in Okpe LGA, where two automatic pump-action guns, one live cartridge, and one knife were discovered hidden and buried in the bush.
“Preliminary investigations are ongoing, with efforts underway to apprehend other members of the gangs who may be attempting to flee,” Edafe remarked.
