In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the party alleged that the exercise was marred by widespread violence and disruptions carried out by armed thugs.
Morka revealed that security operatives arrested more than 200 thugs across the state during the election. He added that credible reports from Shanono, Bagwai, and Ghari confirmed that voters fled polling units as security agents were overwhelmed by the violence.
According to him, continuing with the process under such conditions of “utter brigandage and outright voter intimidation” would undermine the principles of free, fair, and peaceful elections, while also setting a dangerous precedent.
“The APC calls on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to immediately cancel the by-elections for Shanono/Bagwai constituency and the Ghari constituency rerun election in Kano State due to widespread extreme violence and disruption by armed thugs across several polling units,” the statement read.
Meanwhile, APC chieftain and former Zamfara State governorship candidate, Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt in Abuja on Friday.
Shinkafi disclosed that the incident occurred shortly after Juma’at prayers on August 15, when masked, heavily armed gunmen dressed in black ambushed his vehicle and attacked before fleeing in an unmarked black Prado Jeep.
In his reaction, Shinkafi described the incident as an “unprovoked attempt” on his life, suggesting it was linked to his outspoken criticism of insecurity in Zamfara State and other national issues.
