In a bold step to tackle the rising cost of cement, the Federal Government, led by the Ministry of Works and David Umahi, has instructed cement manufacturers to bring down the price of a 50kg bag to ₦7,000.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Before this intervention, cement prices had soared significantly, with reports indicating that prices ranged from ₦10,000 to ₦15,000 per bag in various markets, including Abuja. This price hike has raised concerns among builders, contractors, and the public, causing a surge in construction and infrastructure costs.

Manufacturers have cited factors such as increased production costs, exchange rate fluctuations, and supply-demand imbalances as the main reasons behind the high prices. However, Minister Umahi expressed dissatisfaction with these justifications, pointing out the large gap between the ex-factory and market prices.

“We must examine the situation closely and address other issues to find a common ground,” he stated.

The government’s directive is aimed at easing the financial strain on consumers and boosting activity in the construction sector.

Current Market Prices of Major Cement Brands (as of March 2025):

  1. Dangote Cement: ₦9,900 to ₦10,500 per 50kg bag.

  2. BUA Cement: ₦8,000 to ₦11,000 per 50kg bag.

  3. Lafarge Cement: ₦9,100 to ₦10,500 per 50kg bag.

  4. Ibeto Cement: ₦9,500 to ₦10,500 per 50kg bag.

  5. UniCem (United Cement Company of Nigeria Limited): ₦11,500 to ₦13,500 per 50kg bag (varying by location
