Major brands such as Dangote Cement, BUA Cement, and Mangal Cement are now reportedly selling at about ₦11,000 for a 50kg bag across many markets in the country.

This latest price hike comes amid ongoing economic pressures affecting the construction sector and other industries that rely on cement as a key material.

Several factors have contributed to the increase:

1. Rising Production Costs
Cement production relies heavily on energy, particularly fuel and electricity. Increases in diesel, petrol, gas, or power costs directly raise manufacturing expenses, which are then passed on to buyers.

2. Exchange Rate Fluctuations
Some raw materials and machinery parts for cement production are imported. A weaker Naira against major foreign currencies raises import costs, pushing up the final price of cement.

3. Transportation and Logistics Expenses
Cement must be delivered from factories to markets across Nigeria. Rising costs for fuel, vehicle maintenance, and logistics services contribute to higher retail prices.

4. Strong Construction Demand
Ongoing infrastructure projects and private building activities have kept demand for cement high. When demand outpaces supply, prices naturally increase.

5. Supply Chain Disruptions
Delays at ports, limited raw material availability, or logistical bottlenecks can restrict supply, temporarily driving up prices.

While the jump from ₦10,500 to ₦11,000 per bag may seem modest, it significantly affects builders, developers, and households engaged in construction. Across dozens or hundreds of bags, the higher cost can impact project budgets, timelines, and profit margins.
