Prof. Malumfashi emphasized the commission’s responsibility to issue these certificates, urging the newly elected chairmen and councillors to fulfill their duties effectively. “The commission is tasked with confirming the legitimacy of these leaders in their local government areas,” he stated, adding that they are now responsible for addressing the official needs of their respective LGAs.

The report indicates that state Governor Abba Yusuf will soon administer the oath of office to the chairmen at the Government House in Kano. The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) was declared the winner of all 44 chairmanship positions and 484 councillorship seats during the recent local government elections held on Saturday.

Six political parties participated in the election, including AA, AAC, Accord, ADC, APM, and NNPP, with the NNPP sweeping all contested positions.

On October 25, 2024, Governor Yusuf reaffirmed the commitment to proceed with the planned elections despite a Federal High Court ruling that had sacked the commission’s chairman over alleged party affiliation. He asserted that the state had met all legal requirements for the elections and that measures were in place to ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process.
