In September, organizations such as the Civil Society Scaling Up Nutrition in Nigeria and FHI 360 Alive & Thrive called for the implementation of the National Multi-Sectoral Plan of Action for Food and Nutrition and the reinforcement of the marketing code for breast milk substitutes. They highlighted that the BMS marketing code aims to protect breastfeeding by regulating the promotion of substitutes, which is essential for improving infant feeding practices.

During the virtual inauguration, NAFDAC Director General Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye urged the committees to ensure compliance with both the international code and national regulations in their states. She stressed the importance of these frameworks in promoting breastfeeding, which significantly contributes to the health and well-being of both children and mothers. Adeyeye noted that breastfeeding is vital for public health, foundational to infant health and development, and plays a key role in protecting against various diseases.
