According to a statement released on UEFA’s official website, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City, and Atalanta are the latest teams to confirm their qualification following the final group-stage matches. They join Arsenal and Bayern Munich, who had already sealed their advancement.
Under the Champions League’s revamped format, the top eight teams advance directly to the Round of 16, while clubs placed ninth to twenty-fourth will battle through the knockout play-offs. Only the winners of those ties will enter the main knockout rounds, meaning just twenty-four teams will progress beyond the group stage.
Manchester City not only celebrated their qualification but also earned praise for one of their opponents. City defeated Real Madrid 2–1 at the Santiago Bernabéu, with Nico O’Reilly and Erling Haaland scoring for the visitors and Rodrygo netting for Madrid.
After the match, City manager Pep Guardiola revealed he approached Rodrygo to commend him.
“I went to Rodrygo and I told him: what a player you are… he’s really unbelievable,” Guardiola said, as shared by Fabrizio Romano.
The praise comes during a challenging season for the 24-year-old Brazilian, who has struggled to find form under Xabi Alonso and endured a prolonged goal drought. Despite his dip in performance, Rodrygo has continued to attract Premier League interest, though a move did not materialise during the last transfer window.
