The Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC) has announced the cancellation of the Chairmanship election in Ondo West Local Government Area due to an error involving the old logo of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) on the ballot paper.

Speaking at a press conference in Akure on Saturday night, ODIEC Chairman Dr. Joseph Aremo confirmed that the election in the council area had been rescheduled for Sunday, January 19, 2025. The voting will take place between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Aremo explained that the commission was alerted to the error and decided to re-conduct the election to ensure a free, fair, and transparent process for all political parties.

“We observed that the logo of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) on the ballot paper was indeed an outdated version,” Aremo stated. “To provide a fair and equal platform for all participating political parties, the commission has voided the chairmanship election in Ondo West LG.”

He added: “The re-conducted election will be held tomorrow, January 19, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Although the party could have raised this issue earlier, the commission has taken decisive action to rectify the situation and ensure fairness.”

The commission reaffirmed its commitment to upholding electoral integrity and providing a transparent process for all stakeholders.
