Chaos In Rivers As Suspected Political Thugs Storm NDC Office, Vandalise Billboards

Campaign billboards, banners and other signages belonging to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) have reportedly been destroyed following a suspected attack at the party’s secretariat in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The incident reportedly occurred overnight at the party’s secretariat in Emohua Town, the headquarters of the local government area.

Large billboards, campaign banners and other materials displayed on the building were allegedly vandalised during the attack.

Confirming the incident, NDC House of Representatives candidate for the Ikwerre/Emohua Federal Constituency, Fugbara Ohaka, condemned the development and warned against allowing political differences to escalate into violence, intimidation or destruction of property.

Ohaka appealed to members and supporters of the party to remain calm and law-abiding, stressing that the NDC would not be provoked into taking the law into its own hands.

He also urged security agencies to investigate the incident, identify those responsible and ensure that appropriate action is taken.

The development comes amid other complaints involving campaign materials ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a separate development, NDC candidate for Surulere Federal Constituency I in Lagos State, Adefolaseye Adebayo, accused the Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency (LASAA) of selectively removing her campaign materials from different locations across the state.

Adebayo, a medical surgeon, made the allegation during an interview with Channels Television, claiming that the removal of her campaign banners began shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially opened the campaign period for the 2027 elections.

According to the candidate, some of her supporters reportedly contacted her after allegedly witnessing LASAA officials removing her campaign materials from various locations within the constituency.

She further alleged that her banners were removed while campaign materials belonging to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) flagbearer were allegedly left in place.

The claims have added to concerns over the treatment of campaign materials as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.

While the Rivers incident has prompted calls for a security investigation, the allegations concerning the removal of campaign materials in Lagos remain claims by the candidate and have not been independently established in the report.
