Charge Drug Possessors Found In My Home – Ashiru Demands Action From NDLEADeputy Senate Leader Oyelola Ashiru has called on the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to take legal action against anyone found with hard drugs in his residence. Ashiru made his remarks in response to the NDLEA’s claims, which surfaced after he criticized the agency during a Senate debate on a Bill to establish a National Institute for Drug Awareness and Rehabilitation. He described the NDLEA as “corrupt and already compromised.”

In a statement, NDLEA Chairman Brig Gen Buba Marwa (Rtd) countered Ashiru’s assertions, suggesting that the senator’s criticisms were an attempt to divert attention from the agency’s findings. Represented by Director of Media and Advocacy Femi Babafemi, Marwa reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to dismantling drug networks, including those allegedly linked to Ashiru’s property.

In response, Ashiru, through his special assistant Olaitan Adeyanju, challenged the NDLEA to formally charge the individuals allegedly found with drugs in his house. He accused the agency of retaliating against him due to his vocal stance against its corruption.

His statement noted, “The NDLEA claims to have discovered drugs in Senator Ashiru’s Ilorin house, but there is no information on the court where the culprits have been charged.” He emphasized that he has not influenced any efforts to drop allegations against individuals mentioned by the agency, asserting that he is unfamiliar with their names. Ashiru reiterated his challenge to the NDLEA to prosecute anyone found in possession of illicit drugs.
