Church Leadership Sh*ckwave: Kumuyi Rejects Pressure Over Next Leader
The General Superintendent of the Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor William Kumuyi, has voiced his displeasure over a comment made by one of his members concerning the selection of his successor.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking during a Bible study programme, Kumuyi made it clear that the choice of his successor would be determined solely by God at the appointed time.
The 83-year-old church leader firmly stated that he would reject any attempt by church members to pressure him into naming a successor, stressing that not even his wife could influence such a decision. He also emphasized that no one has the power to push him out of his position.
Recalling the incident, Kumuyi said:
“The brother who taught the other Tuesday kept saying there is no leadership without a successor. He repeated it twice. I felt that was too much, especially since your father is still here. God will provide a successor in His own time.
You are not going to challenge your shepherd, your pilot. I will reject any church member—whether a worker, choir member, or security personnel—who tries to control me. I won’t even take that from my wife because I am the head of the home. I stand my ground and will not be pressured.
If God has given you a pastor who is still active at this age, with a strong voice and the energy to travel everywhere preaching the gospel, and you are already asking for a successor, it makes me think you are tired of seeing me. I don’t want to feel like I’m imposing myself on you.
When the time comes, God will choose a man after His own heart. Don’t try to push me away, even though I know you cannot.”
