According to reports, the fight, which lasted for hours, caused significant damage to church property and required intervention from FCT Command operatives. Initial attempts by the police to quell the disturbance were unsuccessful until tear gas was deployed.

The police subsequently closed the church, dispersed the congregation, and took several elders into custody for questioning.

A church member, who chose to remain anonymous, attributed the conflict to internal disagreements over the church’s decision to separate from its headquarters in the United States. The source explained that tensions had been brewing over practices introduced by the American headquarters that clashed with local cultural norms.

The member noted, “Our headquarters in America has legalized practices that do not align with our cultural values. Some elders wanted to sever ties and rename the church, while others opposed this. This disagreement created factions within the church. Although there was talk of a court battle, it did not materialize.”

The conflict escalated when the pastor announced during the service that the church would remain affiliated with the American headquarters, which triggered the violent outburst.
