According to a statement from the Governor’s spokesman, Sulaiman Bala Idris, released on Sunday, the vigilantes were mistakenly identified as bandits by NAF personnel conducting the operation while fleeing from Gidan Makera in the Boko district of Zurmi Local Council.

after initially denying civilian casualties, the NAF announced an investigation into the reported deaths of non-criminal individuals affected by their strike.

Governor Lawal, while commending the military’s commitment to combating banditry and terrorism in the state, expressed condolences to the families of the victims. He emphasized that the government remains dedicated to supporting the NAF and other security agencies to sustain efforts in combating criminality and restoring peace in Zamfara.

Lawal urged communities to continue collaborating with the military to ensure lasting peace and development, stating that unity is crucial for overcoming the challenges posed by banditry.
