Cleric Asserts: Nigerians Hold The Key To Nigeria’s Transformation

Bishop Godfrey Onah of the Diocese of Nsukka in Enugu State has encouraged all Nigerians to maintain hope and actively participate in efforts to improve the country. Caritas-Nigeria is a Catholic Church agency dedicated to enhancing the welfare of the underprivileged. Onah acknowledged the challenging times in Nigeria but emphasized the duty of citizens to rise to the occasion and work toward national improvement.

“Nigerians must realize that the fate of Nigeria lies in our own hands; only we can resolve our issues. The worst thing we can do is to lose hope,” he stated. He urged citizens to engage actively in national development, saying, “This is a project we all must take part in. We must not allow anyone to intimidate us into submission. We are all Nigerians, and together we can make a difference if each of us takes our responsibilities seriously.”

The Bishop also called on the government to fulfill its obligations and improve the lives of its citizens. He noted that while the government cannot address all challenges alone, interventions from organizations like Caritas-Nigeria are essential, highlighting that it is concerning when such groups have to step in where the government falls short.

In his remarks, Obodoechina expressed gratitude for the support he received during his eight years in office and urged the government at all levels to ensure that all Nigerians can live with dignity, akin to citizens in other nations. He pointed out that support from countries like Germany, the USA, and the UK underscores the need for the Nigerian government to fulfill its mandate to protect the lives and properties of its citizens.

“If the government fails to meet its responsibilities, the church and other civil organizations will continue to do their part within their means to improve the lives of Nigerians,” he concluded.
