Cole Palmer Withdraws From England Squad After Fresh Injury Blow
Chelsea forward Cole Palmer is set to withdraw from England’s squad after suffering a muscle injury, just days after being recalled by manager Thomas Tuchel for the upcoming Nations League fixtures.
According to Bush Radio Academy, Palmer’s latest setback comes shortly after his return to the England setup following his omission from the country’s 2026 World Cup squad. The 24-year-old had been given another opportunity to establish himself under Tuchel but will now miss the upcoming international fixtures because of the injury.
Palmer played the full 90 minutes during Chelsea’s 3-0 defeat to Brentford on Friday before the injury emerged. Reports indicate that his withdrawal is related to a muscle problem, with Morgan Gibbs-White expected to replace him in the England squad.
Tuchel had recalled Palmer after leaving him out of the World Cup squad and previously challenged the Chelsea forward to prove himself and fight for his place in the national team.
The injury means Palmer will miss England’s extended international period, which includes four Nations League matches. England are scheduled to host Spain at Wembley on September 26 before travelling to face Czechia on September 29 and Croatia on October 3, with a return fixture against Czechia at Wembley on October 6.
Palmer had made a productive start to the new season before the setback, having featured prominently for Chelsea and contributed goals and assists. His latest injury is another setback after he dealt with a recurring groin problem during the 2025–26 campaign.
Palmer’s most recent England appearance came in March, when the Three Lions lost 1-0 to Japan in a friendly. His latest withdrawal means Tuchel will have to wait longer to see the Chelsea star return to the England shirt.
