Controversy Follows Obasanjo’s Visit To First Lady Days After Sporting Tinubu Cap

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo met with First Lady Oluremi Tinubu on Monday, as confirmed by the First Lady’s media aide, Busola Kukoyi. The meeting, which occurred on June 17th during the Sallah celebrations, was marked by a cordial exchange between the two prominent figures.

This encounter comes shortly after a video surfaced showing Obasanjo wearing a cap adorned with President Bola Tinubu’s insignia at an event attended by African dignitaries. Despite belonging to different political affiliations within the Southwest geopolitical zone, Obasanjo and Tinubu have engaged in political interactions over the years.

During the 2023 presidential election, Obasanjo endorsed the Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi, while Tinubu sought Obasanjo’s support at his residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State. However, Obasanjo opted to endorse Obi instead, criticizing the Tinubu administration’s governance approach and its response to ongoing reforms and political developments in Niger Republic.
