Governor Yusuf Reveals Reasons Behind Ado-Bayero’s Arrest After Deposition....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has justified his decision to order the arrest of the dethroned Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado-Bayero, citing the need to maintain law and order in the state.
Yusuf clarified that Ado Bayero’s swift return to Kano State just two days after his dethronement posed significant security risks, prompting the arrest order.
Responding to criticism in an article titled “A Rendezvous with Recklessness and Executive Rascality” by Bala Ibrahim, accusing him of abusing power, the governor, through his spokesperson Sanusi Bature, defended his actions. He pointed out that the repeal of the 2019 Kano Emirate Law empowered him to dissolve the emirates created by his predecessor, Abdullahi Ganduje.
Recently, the Kano Federal High Court ruled that the state government must compensate Bayero with N10 million for violating his fundamental rights, personal liberty, and freedom of movement. Justice Simon Amobeda, referring to Sections 35(1) and 41(1) of the 1999 Constitution, criticized Yusuf for ordering Bayero’s arrest without legal justification, leading to his confinement at home due to fear of arrest.
In response, Bature questioned Ibrahim’s understanding of governance but emphasized that the issue of Kano Emirship was straightforward following the repeal of the 2019 law and the enactment of the 2024 law, which reinstated Kano as a single emirate.
He justified the call for Bayero’s arrest as a measure for public safety, asserting that the former Emir’s return posed severe security threats, which the state government continues to manage. Governor Abba Yusuf remains committed to maintaining security in Kano and will not allow the state to descend into anarchy under his watch.
