In a video highlighted by Sahara Reporters, Umahi explained that the takeover was not part of the original plan but was prompted by the woman’s resistance.
“I didn’t intend to take the woman’s remaining land, but when she began causing trouble, I said they should go ahead and acquire it. I’m the one, no one else,” Umahi asserted, suggesting that the land acquisition was carried out in response to her opposition.
Meanwhile, Umahi reaffirmed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is the only party capable of delivering sustainable development to the Southeast.
Speaking at his country residence in Umunaga Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area, Ebonyi State, Umahi addressed APC supporters and stakeholders following the party’s primary election victory of his son, Osborne Nweze Umahi, as the chairmanship candidate for Ohaozara LGA.
He urged youths and party members across the Southeast to engage in mass registration to secure the region’s political future. “Let everybody go and register in APC. There is no alternative,” he said, calling for a coordinated membership drive across all states in the zone.
Umahi also commended President Bola Tinubu for addressing long-standing grievances in the Southeast, particularly the agitation for secession, which he described as rooted in years of neglect.
“The President has resisted all Biafra agitation. We are not acting on sentiments,” he said, emphasizing that political progress for the Southeast must be based on tangible achievements and active participation in national politics rather than protests or intimidation.
He added that the current administration is correcting historical imbalances and assured that the Southeast would eventually produce a credible presidential candidate when the time is right. “The time of God is the right time,” Umahi said, urging unity under the APC platform.
The minister also defended the federal government’s road infrastructure projects, describing them as transformative and crucial for national development.
