Count Me Out! – Sowore Rejects Coalition With El-Rufai, Says It’s A Red Flag

Omoyele Sowore, former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has voiced strong opposition to the proposed political coalition being spearheaded by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

Sowore criticized the credibility of many figures involved in the alliance, stating that they lack the integrity needed to drive genuine change. He pointed out that a number of them served in the cabinet of former President Muhammadu Buhari, and questioned their suitability for any reform agenda.

According to him, instead of forming a political front, most of the coalition members should be facing justice and forming a “union of prisoners.”

Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Monday during the 50th birthday celebration of Lillian Adebayo, wife of former SDP presidential candidate Prince Adewole Adebayo, Sowore made his stance clear.

“I support the idea of coalitions and a strong opposition,” he said. “But certainly not one that includes people like El-Rufai. The moment they get what they’re after, they’ll simply return to the same political fold they came from.”

He added, “Let’s not forget—the APC itself was born from a coalition. Many of those now pushing for a new alliance were once key APC players, even members of Buhari’s cabinet. They shouldn’t be forming coalitions; they should be forming a prisoners’ union.”
