The decision to embark on the nationwide strike arose in response to the assault on NLC National President, Joe Ajaero, last week in Imo State.

The Organized Labour expressed widespread outrage, accusing the former Commissioner of Police in Imo State, Mohammed Barde, of being complicit in the recent attack on Ajaero in Owerri, the capital of Imo State.

Last Friday, Organized Labour handed the Federal Government a five-day ultimatum to replace Barde.

Additionally, they held Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, accountable for the assault on Ajaero. Governor Uzodimma, however, denied any involvement in the attack on the labor leader.

Organized Labour also demanded the apprehension and prosecution of some of the governor’s aides, warning of a nationwide industrial action if their demands were not met.
