Court Drama Looms As EFCC Accuses Blessing CEO Of Fake Cancer Scam Scheme
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has filed fresh charges against social media personality and self-acclaimed relationship therapist, Blessing Okoro Nkiruka, popularly known as Blessing CEO, over an alleged ₦13 million fraud case in Lagos.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The influencer was arraigned on Wednesday before Justice Yelim Bogoro of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi by the Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the anti-graft agency.
According to the EFCC, the new charge sheet contains six counts bordering on alleged false representation and the retention of funds reportedly obtained through deceitful means. The commission said the total sum involved is ₦13 million.
The charges were filed following petitions from individuals and organisations, including the Nigeria Cancer Society.
The petitions reportedly arose from claims made by Blessing CEO on social media, where she allegedly stated that she was battling Stage 4 breast cancer and required financial assistance for treatment.
The EFCC alleged that her online appeal prompted members of the public to donate money toward her alleged medical condition.
However, investigators claimed that the medical documents presented in support of the claim were later discovered to be fake. The agency further alleged that the records used to justify the fundraising effort were not authentic.
Based on its findings, the EFCC accused her of obtaining money under false pretences and unlawfully retaining funds contributed by unsuspecting members of the public.
The matter is expected to proceed at the Federal High Court as the prosecution continues its case.
Blessing CEO, however, remains presumed innocent until proven guilty by the court.
