The incident was reported to have occurred at Hearing Room 107 shortly after the Senate Committee on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) concluded the screening of Dr. Zainab Marwa, who was nominated to represent the North-East on the commission’s board.

According to initial reports, the fire started in the kitchen section of the hearing room but was quickly brought under control before it could spread to other parts of the building.

Senators Asuquo Ekpenyong and Salihu Mustapha were reportedly among those who helped contain the situation, preventing what could have escalated into a more serious emergency.

Preliminary findings suggest the fire may have been caused by a microwave that was left switched on in the kitchen area.

No injuries or casualties were recorded, and normal legislative activities resumed shortly after the incident was contained.

However, journalists present at the scene were reportedly instructed by committee officials to delete photos and videos taken during the incident.
