Court Puts Brake On PDP’s National Secretary Dispute

The battle for the position of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national secretary has taken a significant turn following the party’s receipt of a stay of execution order.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The order halts the enforcement of an earlier Appeal Court judgment that removed Samuel Anyanwu from the position.
PDP’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, revealed this at a press conference in Abuja on Friday, emphasizing the party’s commitment to upholding the rule of law.
PDP Bound by Court Order
Abdullahi explained that the party had been served an order of interim injunction issued by the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Maitama, in a case filed by Imo State PDP Chairman, Austine Nwachukwu.
He stated, “On Wednesday, January 15, we were served with an order of interim injunction issued in a suit filed by Austine Nwachukwu through his counsel, Clement Mue, in a suit marked: CV/64/2025.”
The order restrains the PDP and its agents from enforcing the Appeal Court ruling that recognized Ude Okoye as the National Secretary.
During the press briefing, Abdullahi stressed the party’s obligation to adhere to the court’s directive. “As a law-abiding party, we are compelled to respect the order of the court.
We will also provide legal representation to defend the party in the suit when the Motion on Notice comes up on January 8 and February 5 for hearing on the originating summons,” he said.
He urged party members to exercise patience and restraint, adding, “We appeal to all PDP members to remain law-abiding and await the court’s final decision on this matter.”
Abdullahi acknowledged the tensions arising from the ongoing legal dispute but called for unity within the party. “Regardless of the outcome and the controversies stirred, let us focus on our commitment to constitutionalism and adherence to the rule of law,” he emphasized.
He also cautioned against actions that could tarnish the party’s image and operations, stating, “As the major opposition party in the country, we must not allow internal leadership struggles to compromise our responsibilities.”
