Konbowei faced charges of forging a ‘Certificate of Exemption’ among other documents, to which he pleaded not guilty.

During the recent proceedings, the prosecuting counsel, Reuben Egwuaba, requested the withdrawal of the case following the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice’s decision to rescind his authorization to prosecute. This request was unopposed by Chris Uche (SAN), the senator’s lead counsel, who also urged the court to dismiss the case.

However, Justice Christopher Oba opted to strike out the case instead of dismissing it, thereby discharging the defendant.

Addressing journalists afterward, Senator Konbowei maintained his innocence, attributing the case to political motives. He emphasized his clean record from previous public service roles and affirmed he was not involved in any criminal activity.

Egwuaba clarified that the withdrawal of authorization did not amount to an acquittal, leaving room for potential future legal actions depending on further legal review.

The court’s decision marks a development in the ongoing legal proceedings concerning the senator’s alleged certificate forgery.
