Court Rules In Favor Of Dino Melaye After Six-Year Battle Against FG, IGFormer Senator Dino Melaye has been acquitted in the twelfth and final case filed against him by the Federal Government, marking the end of a six-year legal battle.

Justice Sylvanus Oriji of the FCT High Court in Maitama delivered the ruling, clearing Melaye of two charges related to providing false information about an alleged assassination attempt on his life in 2017.

The legal dispute began in February 2018, when Melaye was accused of falsely implicating Edward Onoja, the then-Chief of Staff to Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, in the assassination plot.

Following the court’s decision, Melaye took to social media platform X to celebrate the verdict. He expressed gratitude to his legal team and reaffirmed his trust in divine justice. “I take life as it comes, but in all the vicissitudes of life, I trust in God only. He is always with the just,” Melaye wrote.

He added, “Justice served after six years. Justice delayed is never justice denied. God alone be praised. SEN. DINO MELAYE 12 – FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AND IGP 0. 12 CASES ALL WON BY GOD.”

The legal proceedings were initially delayed due to the passing of Justice Aromeh Benson Akogu, the judge handling the case, who died during a cross-over service on December 31, 2017. On January 31, 2018, the Attorney General’s Office formally charged Melaye, stating that his claims of an assassination attempt were baseless.

Melaye pleaded not guilty to the charges on March 1, 2018.

Throughout the years, Melaye also faced other allegations of assassination attempts, including one in July 2018, where he accused the Kogi State police command of trying to kill him. Another incident in March 2019 saw him alleging a conspiracy against his life by the Kogi State government, claims which the government denied.
