In a statement shared on its official X handle, the party described the ruling as a serious threat to Nigeria’s democratic system and called on citizens to openly oppose the decision.
The reaction followed a judgment delivered by Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja, which directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to immediately deregister the ADC, Accord Party, and other affected political parties from participating in the 2027 elections.
In its response, the NDC argued that the ruling should not be seen as an isolated issue affecting only the listed parties, warning that actions against one opposition group could have wider implications for others.
The party stressed the need for Nigerians to collectively defend democratic values, political inclusion, and multiparty participation.
It also expressed solidarity with the affected parties, insisting that all political platforms have the legal right to exist and take part in the democratic process.
According to the NDC, the judgment raises serious concerns about the future of opposition politics in the country and the overall health of Nigeria’s democracy.
The party cautioned against any steps that could weaken political competition or limit voter choice in future elections.
It stated: “The court order must be condemned by all and sundry. An injury to one is an injury to all.
“We stand in solidarity with these opposition parties and call on every Nigerian to resist any attempt to drift the nation toward a one-party system.”
