Court To Decide On Lawsuit Against Federal Government Regarding Ogoni Projects On January 10.

The Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, is scheduled to announce its judgment on January 10, 2024, regarding a lawsuit brought against the federal government by the Ekere Pya Ogoni Initiative (EPOI)…CONTINUE RAEDING

The presiding judge, Hon. Justice Phoebe Ayuba, made this announcement on Wednesday following the conclusion of proceedings involving all the parties in the case.

The incorporated trustees of EPOI initiated the lawsuit against the Minister of Environment, the Minister of State for Environment, the Attorney General of the Federation, and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

They sought clarification on projects awarded by the Hydrocarbon Pollution and Remediation Project (HYPREP) in Ogoniland, Rivers State. Some of these projects include the Ogoni Centre of Excellence, the Ogoni Power Project, and the 100-bed Specialist Hospital.

On February 15, 2023, EPOI obtained a court order compelling the first and second respondents, either jointly or severally, to disclose, release, or provide the applicants with the information contained in their letters dated November 23, 2022, and December 12, 2022, respectively.
