The groups, led by Comrade Onyebuchi Igboke, voiced concerns about the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Deacon Okey Ogbodo, allegedly disregarding established laws in the issuance of a certificate of recognition to a traditional ruler without due process.

Igboke expressed worry that such actions could lead to communal unrest and emphasized that imposing leaders on communities without elections could jeopardize peace and security.

The coalition demanded a democratic election for the Igwe of Obuno Uno, urging the withdrawal of the purported certificate and the immediate sack or suspension of Commissioner Ogbodo.

They also called for the constitution of a panel of inquiry, including civil society, labor unions, government officials, and individuals of integrity, to investigate the matter.

The coalition issued a one-week ultimatum for the Commissioner’s removal and urged various associations and groups to join in restoring human dignity and values in Enugu State.

The reported tension in Obuno-Uno Autonomous Community is linked to the alleged issuance of a certificate of recognition without due process.

Efforts to obtain a response from the commissioner were unsuccessful as he did not respond to text messages.
