Crisis Resolved: PDP Governors Announce Nullification Of SuspensionsThe Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum (PDP-GF) has instructed conflicting party members to return to their previous positions. Mohammed emphasized that as a political organization, the PDP is bound to encounter disagreements, but he assured that these issues are manageable. “There is no crisis. The Governors, Board of Trustees, and National Assembly caucus have agreed that the National Working Committee (NWC) should revert to the status quo,” he stated.

He confirmed that all suspensions within the party have been nullified.

Background of the PDP Crisis

The PDP has faced an internal crisis since its presidential primary election prior to the 2023 general elections. This turmoil has led to some stakeholders opposing the party’s candidate, Atiku Abubakar, who ultimately lost to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC). As the party seeks to reconcile its leadership ahead of the 2027 elections, calls have emerged for the removal of the current national chairman, Umar Damagum.

Recent Developments

The party’s situation worsened last Friday when it split into two factions led by Yayari Mohammed and Umar Damagum. Reports indicate that the Damagum faction suspended National Legal Adviser Adeyemi Ajibade and National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba during a National Working Committee (NWC) meeting.

In response to the leadership crisis, Abdullahi and Okechukwu Osuoha were appointed as acting replacements for the suspended officials. Tensions escalated when Ologunagba announced the suspension of Damagum and National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, citing multiple complaints against them. A Federal High Court ruling on the same day prevented the National Executive Committee (NEC) and Board of Trustees from dismissing Damagum as acting national chairman, affirming his position until the party’s convention scheduled for December 2025.

Current Status

Governor Bala Mohammed, addressing the media before traveling to Ondo for an important assignment, confirmed that the party leadership has annulled the suspensions of Damagum, National Publicity Secretary Ologunagba, and National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade, SAN. He reiterated that the status quo remains in effect for now.
