The tell-all interview, released in three parts on Ronaldo’s official YouTube channel, kicked off today, with additional segments scheduled for Thursday and a special “extra time” feature on Friday.
Reflecting on Manchester United, Ronaldo expressed both concern and affection for the club where he rose to global fame.
“Honestly, seeing the club’s current situation saddens me. This is one of the most important clubs in world football, and it still holds a special place in my heart,” he said. “Man United needs wise management to lay strong foundations for the future.”
Ronaldo lamented the loss of the club’s former developmental framework, citing the rise of academy talents like Nicky Butt, Ryan Giggs, and David Beckham. “Today’s Man United lacks that structural approach. I hope to see positive changes soon,” he added.
Despite the challenges, Ronaldo affirmed his enduring love for the club. “Of course! I spent many years there, won the Champions League, the Ballon d’Or, and numerous trophies. Man United will always be in my heart. But we must be honest: the club is on the wrong path and needs radical reform. It’s not just about the coach or players,” he explained.
Addressing the new Portuguese manager Ruben Amorim, Ronaldo defended his efforts but highlighted the obstacles. “He’s given everything! What more can you ask for? Miracles don’t happen easily. Even with excellent players, some lack the competitive mindset needed.”
Ronaldo urged the team to reclaim its legendary spirit. “The true Man United ethos is never giving up and striving to win continuously. That mentality is fading, and the club must rebuild the foundations of its success.”
Retirement Approaching
At 39, Ronaldo admitted retirement is near. When asked about stepping away from football, he said simply, “Yes… soon.”
He acknowledged the emotional challenge of leaving the game. “Will it be difficult? Yes. I’ll probably cry. I’m someone who feels emotions deeply and doesn’t hide them.”
Having prepared for this phase for years, Ronaldo said, “Since I was around 25 or 26, I’ve been planning my future. I think I can handle it.” Yet, he emphasized the thrill of scoring goals is unmatched. “Nothing compares to that adrenaline rush. Everything has a beginning and an end, and I’ll be ready when the time comes.”
Looking ahead, Ronaldo said his family will take center stage. “I want more time for my children. Bella is only three and already counts the days when I’m away. I want to be more present for Cristiano and Matéo, especially as they grow up and explore their passions.”
Marriage Plans
Ronaldo also addressed his personal life, revealing plans to marry Georgina Rodríguez. “Not yet,” he laughed when asked if they were married. “We’re planning it after the World Cup, with the trophy.”
The couple has not finalized the venue, as Georgina prefers a private ceremony. “What matters most is her happiness,” Ronaldo said.
On the topic of a bachelor party, Ronaldo joked, “João is handling all the arrangements. If you get an invitation, we’ll probably be talking about it for a whole week!” When teased about a private island celebration, he smiled, saying, “You’re already part of the family.”
The first installment of the interview is now available on Cristiano Ronaldo’s official YouTube channel.
