To address the situation, a Response Committee has been established by the Surveillance Unit and Logistic Management Coordinating Unit of the State Ministry of Health. This committee will be stationed in the affected local government areas (LGAs) to manage the drugs provided by the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to control the outbreak. Additionally, an Emergency Operation Centre has been activated, with Dr. Blessing Ekpenyong, the State Epidemiologist and Incident Manager, set to coordinate the response efforts.

Ayuk disclosed that the Local Government Area Rapid Response Team has already been dispatched to affected wards to conduct case investigations and compile a list of reported cases, aiming to curb the spread of the disease. He emphasized the importance of public cooperation, urging citizens to strictly adhere to preventive measures such as avoiding impure drinking water, unripened fruits, and contaminated foods.

The commissioner assured the public that the State Rapid Response Team is prepared to be deployed promptly to any newly reported cases, demonstrating the government’s commitment to containing and managing the cholera outbreak.
