The Appeal Court declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Nasir Yusuf Gawuna, as the winner of the election.

Expressing disapproval of the verdict, the coalition argued that the judgement contradicted democratic principles.

Francis Obinna, the Convener of the coalition, urged the Supreme Court to overturn the Appeal Court’s decision.

In a statement he issued, Obinna said, “The Supreme Court, being the highest court in the land, holds the responsibility to uphold justice and ensure the prevalence of the rule of law.

Drawing a parallel with the case of Vice President Kashim Shettima, where the Supreme Court delivered a clear and decisive judgement on a similar pre-election matter, it is perplexing and deeply disconcerting that the Court of Appeal deviated from this precedent in the case of Governor Abba Yusuf.”

He emphasized the need for a robust and transparent review of the Court of Appeal’s judgement in the Kano Governorship case, urging the Supreme Court to intervene and provide clarity to ensure justice.

Obinna highlighted the far-reaching implications of the judgement beyond Kano State, expressing concern that it could set a perilous precedent affecting the integrity of future elections and undermining public trust in democratic processes.

The coalition vehemently asserted that the Appeal Court’s judgement was not only legally flawed but also morally reprehensible, reflecting a disregard for the rule of law and a willingness to subvert the people’s will.

In conclusion, the statement emphasized the people of Kano State’s enduring hardships and called for a stable and competent government to address their needs, urging a correction of the perceived injustice.
