In a statement on Tuesday, NCS National Public Relations Officer (PRO) Abdullahi Maiwada stated that the extension of the Comptroller-General’s tenure is solely at the President’s discretion, as stipulated by the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023 and other public service regulations. He affirmed that, to date, no official communication regarding such an extension has been received.
“For clarity, appointments and tenure extensions for the Comptroller-General of Customs are exclusively the President’s prerogative, in accordance with the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023 and other relevant regulations. As of now, no directive concerning the extension has been received by the NCS,” Maiwada stated.
The statement also addressed the circulation of false reports alleging a release from the State House about the tenure extension, labeling such information as misleading. The NCS urged the public to disregard the fake news.
Reaffirming its dedication, the NCS stated that it remains focused on its core responsibilities of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security.
