The PDP, along with its candidate Asue Ighodalo, is contesting the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare Monday Okpebholo of the APC as the winner of the September 21, 2024, governorship election, citing alleged irregularities.

Reports indicate that the three-member tribunal, chaired by Justice Wilfred Kpochi, reserved judgment on March 3, 2025, after all parties involved presented their final written addresses.

Speaking to Daily Trust in Benin, Jarret Tenebe, the acting chairman of the APC in Edo State, expressed strong confidence in the party’s chances, crediting their well-prepared legal team. “We are confident of victory because we have a strong case, and our lawyers have done an excellent job,” he stated. Tenebe stressed the need to substantiate allegations of electoral irregularities, noting that the PDP failed to meet this standard.

Meanwhile, Chris Nehikhare, the publicity secretary of the PDP caretaker committee, also voiced confidence, asserting that the party had thoroughly presented its case with well-documented evidence. He emphasized the importance of fairness and transparency in the tribunal’s decision, expressing hope that the judgment would reflect the facts presented.
