The EFCC is currently investigating 52 companies, including Dangote Group, over foreign exchange transactions with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), particularly during the tenure of former CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele. The companies are being probed for forex allocations.

Dangote Group, in a statement released by its management, alleges that the EFCC officials insisted on visiting their offices to collect the same set of documents that the company had already submitted to the EFCC office. The statement also claims that the EFCC did not provide the requested clarification and did not grant an extension of time for submitting the required information.

The statement reads, “On 6 December 2023, we received a letter requesting details of all foreign exchange allocated to our company by the Central Bank of Nigeria from 2014 to the present. We responded, seeking clarification and additional time to compile the extensive documentation spanning ten years. However, the EFCC did not provide clarification, did not honor our request for an extension, and insisted on receiving the complete set of documents within a limited timeframe.”

It further states that, despite delivering the first batch of documents on January 4, 2024, EFCC officers declined to accept them, opting to visit Dangote Group’s offices instead, in a manner that appeared to cause “unwarranted embarrassment.”

Dangote Group emphasizes its commitment to cooperating with the EFCC, highlighting its contribution to the national GDP, status as the largest private-sector employer, and commitment to ethical business practices. The statement concludes by calling for understanding and patience from stakeholders, with a promise to keep them informed of any further developments.
